Summary
Fort Bragg Police Chief Scott Mayberry is out on medical leave and, while it is hoped that the leave will be of short duration, it is necessary to ensure leadership and direction of the Police Department's operation in his absence. On July 7, 2014, the City Manager appointed Stephen Willis to serve as a temporary "management consultant" in the Police Department while Council authorization was sought for a longer-term Agreement for Mr. Willis' services as Interim Police Chief.  Mr. Willis is an accomplished and experienced Police Chief, having served with the Sausalito Police Department for 30 years and as an interim Police Chief for the cities of Cloverdale, Healdsburg, Sonoma, Seaside and, on two prior occasions, Fort Bragg. The Agreement provides for an hourly rate of $64.33 with no benefits or overtime compensation. The Agreement terminates whenever the number of hours served by Mr. Willis totals 960 hours or by April 30, 2015, whichever comes first, or when terminated by either party in accordance with the termination clause (Paragraph 15) of the Agreement.
