Title

Appoint Joe Sutphin to Serve on the Fort Bragg Fire Protection Authority

Summary

The City Council has established a regular, annual procedure for soliciting applications and evaluating candidates for appointment to advisory committees, the Noyo Harbor District, and the Fort Bragg Fire Protection Authority. The current term for the City's jointly appointed member to the Fort Bragg Fire Protection Authority expires on March 31, 2019. The position is jointly appointed by the City Council and the Rural Fire District Board of Directors.

A Public Notice was issued on December 14, 2018 calling for all interested persons to apply for the joint appointment to the Fort Bragg Fire Protection Authority (Attachment 1). This notice was published in the Fort Bragg Advocate News twice, on December 20 and December 27, 2018. No applications have been received to date. Vice Mayor Norvell contacted the incumbent, Joe Sutphin, who has indicated his willingness to continue to serve on the Fire Protection Authority, subject to approval by the City Council. As there are no other applicants and Mr. Sutphin is an incumbent, staff recommends that the City Council forego the interview process and appoint Mr. Sutphin to serve another term on the Board of the Fort Bragg Fire Protection Authority. This action can be taken by the Council on the Consent Calendar and will be recorded as a "minute order."
