Title

Adopt City Council Resolution Regarding Submittal of an Application for the CalRecycle Beverage Container Recycling Grant for Procurement of Recycling and Trash Receptacles and for the Administration of the Project Components

Summary
The City is pursuing grant funding in the amount of $134,683 for the purchase and installation of 55 new dual-purpose trash/recycling receptacles constructed with 100% recycled plastic to be located throughout the City Limits. The existing public waste receptacles within the City are ineffective and inadequate to promote beverage container recycling and the cans are old and outdated which often results in pick up refusal. In addition to receptacle procurement, the City has partnered up with Waste Management, the Fort Bragg Unified School District, and the Noyo Center to establish an education and outreach component in order to be more competitive for the grant cycle. CalRecycle grant application procedures require an applicant’s governing body to declare by resolution certain authorizations related to the administration of the CalRecycle grants. Grant awards will be made in January of 2019. Staff recommends that Council adopt the Resolution regarding authorization for the submittal of the Grant Application.
