Title

Adopt City Council Resolution Approving Police Department Donation to the Timberwolf Boosters in the Amount of $20,000 from Law Enforcement Administrators Association (LEAA) Asset Forfeiture Education Funds

Summary

The Fort Bragg Police Department would like to assist the Timberwolf Boosters in their fundraising efforts by donating $20,000 from the Asset Forfeiture Fund’s LEAA account in order to further the Boosters’ goal of raising $100,000 for this year. The Police Department recognizes that the small and sometimes isolated community of Fort Bragg offers limited activities for local youth to be involved in. The Boosters’ mission this year is to assist in funding all eligible Fort Bragg High School club and sports programs. The Police Department wholeheartedly believes that support for these programs will go a long way towards directing local youth away from involvement in gangs and/or drugs.  The donation, as well as follow up involvement by Police Department personnel, will strengthen the partnership between schools, law enforcement and local teens. This donation exceeds the authority of the Chief and the City Manager for approving expenditures of asset forfeiture funds and therefore Council authorization is needed.
