Title
Receive Report and Make Recommendation to City Council Regarding Adopt-a-Street Program

Summary
At its meeting of April 13, 2015, the City Council listened to a presentation from Mr. Mike Beck encouraging the City of Fort Bragg to create an "Adopt-a-Street" program. An "Adopt-a-Street" brochure from the City of Paso Robles was included in the agenda packet. Council directed that this idea be forwarded to the Public Works and Facilities Committee for further consideration.
The Paso Robles program emphasizes litter pick-up. The requested commitment of the volunteers is to do so at least once a month. In addition to streets, the program includes public parking lots and trails. Mendocino County has a similar "Adopt-a-Road" program. Their program covers not only litter pick up but also graffiti removal and minor plantings. Both programs have extensive safety provisions. They both also have a standard permit and conditions.
Some program elements to consider:
-      Recognition signs or letters of appreciation
-      Loan of safety gear, tools, etc.
-      Providing trash bags
-      Safety
-      Liability
-      Permit
-      City costs
-      Notifying the City when working in right of way
-      Adequacy of clean up
Staff requests input and direction on this matter.
