Title

Approve a Letter in Support of Mendocino County Measure D and Companion Measure E

Summary

Fifth District Mendocino County Board of Supervisor Ted Williams made a presentation to the City Council on December 9th and requested a letter of support from the City of Fort Bragg for Measure D and Measure E.  Measure D will extend the County's existing Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) to private campgrounds and Recreational Vehicle (RV) parks.  Measure D is expected to raise $1 Million in additional Revenue.  Measure E, the companion measure to Measure D, would recommend that the County allocate that additional revenue to the County's twenty-one (21) local fire departments.  Like Fort Bragg, most of those departments are staffed with volunteer fire fighters.

Local fire departments provide emergency response to a range of emergencies, many of which are generated by visitors to the County. Measure E recommends that the County allocate 75% of the $1 Million to the twenty-one fire departments equally. The Measure recommends the remaining 25% be allocated annually based on recommendations made by the County's Fire Chiefs.
