Approve Scope of Work for a Request for Proposals for Design Services for the Community Development Block Grant Fire Station Rehabilitation Project, Project No. 20-CDBG-12029

Summary

On May 26, 2020 City Council approved Resolution No, 4256-2020 authorizing five Planning applications for the 2020 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). The Fire Station Rehabilitation Project application, submitted through this solicitation was in the amount of $203,703. The City was awarded $190,376 for the Design Planning Activity and $13,326 for General Administration.

The rehabilitation project has been on the City’s Capital Program list since 2009. The CDBG-funded Fire Station Rehabilitation Planning project will allow the City to procure a design professional to complete Plans and Specifications for the seismic and structural rehabilitation of the Fire Station. Plans and Specifications will also include a roof rehabilitation alternative as the roof is continually leaking and also in need of repair. Issuance of this RFP will allow the City to move the project forward in order to compete for the upcoming Planning funding opportunities through the state CDBG program, which is currently scheduled for August 2022.

Upon authorization of this Scope of Work, A Request for Proposals will be released to qualified design proposals to procure a firm to complete the work. The completion of the Fire Station Planning Design will result in Plans and Specifications, making the rehabilitation project much more competitive when seeking funding to begin the construction work.
